If you have been searching for a natural charcoal melt and pour (glycerine) soap base, then this product is for you. This is a coconut oil soap base.

Crafted in NZ, this black charcoal soap base contains only natural ingredients. It provides an excellent skin feel and is extremely high lather. Perfect for those with sensitive/dry skin but also cleansing enough to use on oilier skin. It is a true all-rounder.

***Why is there a 950g variation? We received some bases that were slightly under 1kg and so have decided to sell these at a discounted rate. They vary from between 950g – 999g.`

To Melt: Chop into small 2cm cubes and melt in a Pyrex jug in the microwave on short 20-30 second bursts or on a double-boiler. Do not leave unattended (watch it carefully) as this base melts very quickly. Please note that there may be some clumps of charcoal powder not incorporated into the white coconut soap base when cut, but this will mix in once melted.

Colouring your soap base: This base is already black – colour not required (or recommended).

If you just want a pure and natural soap, just chop it off the block as you need it – no need to add anything else.

Colour: Charcoal black.

Odour: Mildly sweet.

Vegan Status: Vegan friendly.

Melting Point: 45-55 °C.

Product Consistency: This is a very hard and brittle base. Take care when un-moulding small or intricate soaps – we recommend freezing them for 30 minutes prior. It also sets up quickly and will form a skin if you don’t keep stirring. I find it a bit like working with candle wax and recommend giving it a really good tap once in the mould, to ensure it has reached all edges of the mould. You can still swirl and layer the base, but it takes some practise. Remember, this is a natural base and does not contain artificial ingredients that make it easier to work with.

Decomposition Point: 150°C. Do not over-heat this base as it is a natural product made from oils and will begin to smoke if you heat it above this point.

pH: 7.8-8.5. This is quite low for soap and will not strip your skin like higher pH soaps.

Packaging: Cellophane (derived from trees) and sticky tape plus a label.

    Naturally Beautiful Charcoal Soap Base

It’s like Grannie’s fudge to work with — creamy and luscious lathers, delightful as is, I used Black Fig and Guava and it’s just divine, love this product. The black lather is unusual, but I use it as a selling point for it’s visibility and naturalness. All ages have loved it too 🙂
